Carlos Barbosa

History

Carlos Barbosa is a place of various ethnicities. The story of the city starts in 1885 with the arrival of the first German immigrants, but the development of the city  began when the Italian immigrants arrived, in 1870.
Currently, Carlos Barbosa is known for having the headquarters of Tramontina, a Brazilian company known for development of electric equipment, cutlery, pans, sinks, etc. The city is also known as the futsal city, because of the great futsal team in the town, the ACBF (Associação Carlos Barbosa de Futsal)

Tourist attractions

Train ride: Carlos Barbosa has a tour by a steam-powered train which travels 23Km between Carlos Barbosa and Bento Gonçalves. The tour also has typical Italian and gauchos attractions and give the passengers the feeling of going back in time.

Park Station: Located in the center of the town, the Park holds the old Railway Station building. It was built in 1908 and restored in 2000. It’s one of the most beautiful post cards of Carlos Barbosa. Currently, the Park Station holds the cinema.

Moinho São José: Built by the immigrant David Tieppo, in 1887, the mill is located 3Km from the city and has a beautiful natural setting around it.

Igreja Matriz Nossa Senhora Mãe de Deus: Built in 1943, is dedicated to Our Lady Mother of God. The bells of the church are played in special celebrations.

Morro do Diabo: Considered as one of the best ramps to practice free flight in Rio Grande do Sul, this attraction has 665 meters height and an easy access. The place also has a great infrastructure to receive tourists and visitors.

Location

Carlos Barbosa is located at the Grape and Wine Region, in the Serra Gaúcha. The city is situated 100Km away from Porto Alegre, 65Km from the Hortências Region (Nova Petrópolis, Canela, Gramado e São Francisco de Paula), and a few kilometers away from the main cities of the Grape and Wine Region: Caxias do Sul, Bento Gonçalves and Garibaldi.

The City 
With many places to take a tour, one of the most popular is the famous Usina do Gasômetro, giving us fabulous scenery of the sunset. Our famous fellow in Redemption Park. A boat coasting the Guaiba Lake, showing the beauty of our Porto Alegre, whereas now the youth of the capital of state meet in the bars of the Lower City. This is a brief description of what the state capital has to offer.


History of Porto Alegre 
  
The capital of Rio Grande do Sul was founded on March 26, 1772. On July 24, 1773 Porto Alegre became the capital of the State, with the official installation of the government of José Marcelino de Figueiredo. In 1774 the state capital moved to what is known today. Praça XV, Praça da Alfândega e da Matriz were opened. Since 1824, began to receive immigrants from around the world, particularly Germans, Italians, Spaniards, Africans, Poles, Jews and Lebanese.










Geography 

Area: 496.684 km2
Relief: The city occupies an area of ​​40 plain surrounded by hills, which cover 65% of its area. It borders the banks of the river Guaiba Lake, 72 km in length.

Transport


Porto Alegre has several means of transport, with a huge fleet of buses and stocking (minibuses that provide more comfort for the user) that circulate throughout the Capital, with some buses especially for games at the Beira Rio Stadium and Arena. The city also has train lines, which facilitates access to other areas such as the Vale dos Sinos.

MUSEU DE CIÊNCIAS E TECNOLOGIA DA PUCRS


The Museum of Science and Technology PUCRS is located at Avenida Ipiranga 6681, Building 40 on the Parthenon neighborhood.It is one of the largest interactive museums of natural sciences in Latin America. The exhibition area comprises about 700 interactive equipment, visitors can participate in experiments that result in current scientific knowledge.

CATEDRAL METROPOLITANA DE PORTO ALEGRE


The Metropolitan Cathedral of Porto Alegre is located at Rua Duque de Caxias, 1047.'s Church was built between 1921 and 1986. Magnificent Dome of the Church of the trademark landscape of the capital, is 65 meters above the square, with an inner diameter of about 18 meters. Considered one of the great monuments of the capital, the cathedral is one of the most spectacular monuments to state.

PARQUE MOINHOS DE VENTO


The site is situated at Rua 24 de Outubro.
The Moinhos de Vento Park, better known as Parcão, is located in a neighborhood of green area. The administrative headquarters is a replica of an Azorean mill,

On site there is an artificial lake that allows life to a fauna consisting of fish, turtles, geese and ducks.

USINA DO GASÔMETRO


Situated on the banks of the Guaiba River, close to downtown Porto Alegre. The Usina do Gasômetro is an old power plant, the building opened in 1928 to receive the Brazil Electric Power Company.

It is a place much frequented to watch the famous sunset on the banks of the Guaíba. The site became host to many cultural events such as theater, dance, paintings.

ARENA


The Arena is a stadium of the home team Grêmio Foot-ball Porto Alegrense.

BEIRA RIO


The Beira Rio is a stadium of the home team Sport Club Internacional, is located on the shores of Lake Guaiba. In this location, some of the Cup games will be played

Guaíba

LOCATION: Guaiba is located very close to Porto Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. It is washed by the waters of Guaiba River. It is located around 30 minutes from the airport of Porto Alegre, without traffic.

WEATHER: In Guaíba, the dominant weather is subtropical, but it also has well-defined seasons, during summer it’s very warm, and during winter is moderate cold.

Cipreste Farroupilha: This Tree is the symbol of the city. In its shadow leaders of the  Farroupilha Revolution planned the invasion of Porto Alegre in 1835.
